James McAvoy to appear in a West End role in 2013

In February of next year, Trafalgar Studios are set to become the theatre destination of 2013. As part of Trafalgar Transformed, a series of productions will be directed by Olivier award winner Jamie Lloyd, with Macbeth starring James McAvoy opening on 9 February.

The last time that BAFTA winning and Golden Globe nominated actor James McAvoy appeared on stage was at the Apollo Theatre in 2009 in a production of Three Days of Rain, for which he received an Olivier award nomination. His previous credits include Breathing Corpses at the Royal Court, Privates on Parade at the Donmar Warehouse and Out in the Open at Hampstead Theatre.

Jamie Lloyd’s production will see Shakespeare’s darkest tale play out in a dystopian Scotland brutalised by war. Under a toxic fog, Macbeth begins his tormented struggle for power fuelled by ambition and paranoia.

Director, Jamie Lloyd said "I am thrilled to announce the first production for Trafalgar Transformed - a season of politically-charged power plays on the doorstep of Whitehall, accompanied by a festival of platform events, discussions and readings. We hope to welcome new and diverse audiences to the West End and I am very excited to engage with schools and other groups via a series of bespoke workshops and masterclasses.”

Macbeth opens on 9 February 2013 and runs until the end of April. On Mondays, all tickets will be £15, half of which will be distributed through a special programmed aimed at schools and first time theatregoers. Day seats will also be available for £10 on Tuesday through Saturday.

Ticket prices: £10 - £54.50
Performances: Monday - Saturday 7.30pm with Thursday & Saturday at 2.30pm too.
