Audience - review

Ontoerend Goed roughly translates as “feel estate”. What does this even mean? What it certainly doesn't mean, is “it's really easy to understand what I'm doing”. This theatre company has, in the past, experienced a lot of joy with their exploits, one of which include a strange date where you tell all your secrets – before they get revealed to people you've never met. But they did write to you a month later, which is lovely.

Showstopper! The Improvised Musical - review

Truth be told, there are many things to doubt as you walk in to the auditorium where 90 minutes worth of musical theatre material is supposedly about to be improvised in front of you; the dialogue, the music, everything. What’s more – it’s all based on suggestions from the audience.

Collaborators - review

Okay, so I'm going to be honest – I couldn't get a ticket, nor did I have the time to go to the National and watch a play about Stalin. So I went to the cinema. But before you say “well that was a quick review”, you can stop right there, because I did see Collaborators! Thanks to a (fairly) recent initiative, the National Theatre of Great Britain has been broadcasting plays across the globe in the form of NT Live, and I had the distinct pleasure of watching Collaborators from the comfort of rainy Richmond, in a cinema where you pay more for Jelly Beans than you do for cab fare – it's fine though because they were fair trade.

A delightful comedy where many doors slam repeatedly on the faces of many budding actors – and probably their careers. Whilst the cast of Nothing On (the play within this play) should look for careers as far away from the stage as possible, the cast of Noises Off will be stunning audiences every night that they perform.

A Cinematic/Theatrical Experience

Written by: Peeny

Whilst sitting in the Curzon Cinema in Richmond, I watched a performance that was happening only a few miles away from me, that was also being viewed on several different continents at the exact same time.

The Irish man asks why he is being tortured; luckily, audience members know how to bite their tongue.

Mike Bartlett’s new writing takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to ask a whole load of obvious questions; a wildly ambitious play that attempts to discuss the war on Iran, recent London riots, religion, funding cuts and student tuition fees – all, of course, with a female Prime Minister. The relation to today’s audience is admirable; though a little too palpable.

Middle to upper-class spectators fill the auditorium. Working class drunken disgraces fill the stage: the statements on class differences are prominent from the very beginning.

From Royal Court production to West End delight... 'Jerusalem' must not be missed.

This play had never been picked up by a director to direct, or theatre to be produced.
Until Mark Rylance (who gives a world class performance as Johnny 'Rooster' Byron) read it, and demanded he played that character.

There is laughter aplenty during this 110 minute global trek as seven different walks of life have the audience confronted by the world in which they live where promises are (apparently) like eggs – easily broken.
